CLP label calculator

Label size depends on the capacity of the package (Annex I 1.2.1.4 CLP). No fixed minimum font size applies today. From 1 January 2028, Regulation (EU) 2024/2865 sets an x-height of 1.2 to 2.0 mm per package, and the Omnibus text approved by Parliament gives other values. The calculator shows all versions side by side.

Frequently asked questions

What is the x-height?

The height of a lowercase x, so without ascenders and descenders. You measure it in the print PDF at original size and then on the printed sample.

Do I have to change my label now?

Not because of the font size: today Art. 31(3) CLP only requires easy legibility. If you only sell to trade customers, wait for the Omnibus in the Official Journal before large print runs.

Why does the calculator show several values?

Because three versions exist side by side: the law today, the adopted amendment and the Omnibus text that is not yet in force. The date next to the Omnibus value shows when we last checked.

What applies to very small packages?

Inner packaging of up to 10 ml has its own rules, set out in Annex I 1.5.2.4. The calculator does not cover them.
