The short answer

You need no plugin. One code snippet is enough: an iframe or a script tag that you paste into an HTML area of your page. Both show the data sheet search with your products, and new versions appear at once. You find the finished code in the dashboard under “Einbinden” (embed). If your system cannot do that, simply link to your manufacturer page at ProofPass.

Two routes: iframe or script

The iframe is a frame that loads the search from proofpass.eu. It works wherever HTML is allowed and needs no JavaScript on your page.

The script places the same frame where it stands. On the Basis and Start plans it also sets the link “Bereitgestellt über ProofPass” directly in your page, not in the frame. Some systems strip script tags from text fields. In that case use the iframe.

Both codes contain your short name. Copy them from the dashboard, not from this guide. The dashboard is in German.

  • iframe: runs everywhere, no JavaScript needed
  • Script: frame and link in your page, removed by some editors

The language of the widget

The script speaks the language of the page it sits on. On a Polish page the search box, labels and notes appear in Polish, and documents in that language come first. It reads the language setting of your page, with nothing to configure in the dashboard. If that is missing it uses the browser language, then the language of your manufacturer page.

For the iframe, the language goes at the end of the address, for example /pl. For the script, set it with data-lang="pl". The widget does not translate product names and categories: they appear as you entered them. A document exists only in the languages you uploaded.

WordPress

Open the page in the block editor and add the “Custom HTML” block. Paste the code and save the page.

  • Open the page, add a block, choose “Custom HTML”
  • Paste the code
  • Check the preview, publish

WooCommerce

WooCommerce runs on WordPress. For a page of its own called “Data sheets” the WordPress steps apply. On a product page you paste the code into an HTML area of the description, depending on your theme in the “Text” tab of the editor or in an HTML block.

Wix

In the Wix editor, use “Add” to insert an “Embed” element and choose “Embed HTML”. Paste the code there and drag the element to the size you want. Wix sometimes shows embedded code only in the preview.

Jimdo

Add a content area of the type “Widget / HTML” and paste the code. The exact name depends on your Jimdo plan and version.

Shopify

For a page of its own, open the pages section in the Shopify admin, switch the editor to the HTML view and paste the code. The same works for product descriptions.

With themes that use sections, you can alternatively use the “Custom Liquid” section and paste the code there. Menus change with the theme.

Shopware

In the shopping experiences, add an element for custom HTML if your Shopware offers one, and paste the code there. Alternatively use the HTML field of the product description. Which elements are available depends on version and extensions.

TYPO3

Create a new content element on the page and choose “Plain HTML”. Paste the code and save. If HTML content is restricted in your installation, ask your agency to allow it.

Webflow

In the Designer, drag an “Embed” element onto the page and paste the code. To test, publish the page, because the Designer does not always show the frame.

Squarespace

Add a code block, set it to HTML and paste the code. Whether your plan allows code blocks is stated in your Squarespace plan settings.

Joomla and Drupal

Joomla: in the article editor, switch to the source view and paste the code. The default filter of some editors removes iframes. In that case change the filters for your user group in the editor settings.

Drupal: create content or a block with a text format that allows full HTML and paste the code. The format “Restricted HTML” strips the iframe.

Custom builds: iframe or script?

If you build the page yourself, put the iframe or the script straight into your template. The iframe loads independently of your code and does not interfere with your scripts. The script gives you the frame and the link in your own DOM.

Give the iframe a minimum height of about 720 pixels and a width of 100 per cent. With the script, the height is set through the attribute data-height.

A link instead of embedding, and the QR code on the label

If less is enough, link to your manufacturer page at ProofPass from the menu, for example under “Data sheets”. The page shows your logo, the search and all current versions. Embedding is not necessary.

Printed labels and packaging get the product’s QR code. It always leads to the current product page and never changes, even when you replace the data sheet. You download the QR code from the dashboard as PNG or SVG.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a plugin?

No. An iframe or a script tag in an HTML area is enough. A WordPress plugin that pulls the data through the API is an alternative for shops with many products. The API is available from the Start plan.

Does the widget come with cookies?

No. The embedded page sets no cookies and loads no third-party content. When it is called, our server receives, as with any page, the IP address and the page request. When a PDF is opened or a search is made we count anonymously, without an identifier. Whether you need a notice on your own page depends on your own privacy policy. Name the service ProofPass there as embedded content.

What does Google see?

On your page Google sees the frame, not its content. The data sheets themselves are on your manufacturer page at ProofPass, which search engines can index. On the Basis and Start plans the link “Bereitgestellt über ProofPass” points from your page to that manufacturer page.

Must the link “Bereitgestellt über ProofPass” stay?

On the Basis and Start plans it is part of the embedding. From the Pro plan it falls away.

Does the embedding update by itself?

Yes. The frame loads the data from your account on every call. When you upload a new version, it also appears on your website after a few minutes.

With ProofPass

In the dashboard under “Einbinden” you find the finished code for iframe and script, your link and, from the Start plan, the API keys for plugins and shop connections.

The dashboard and the sign-up form are in German.
